Distributed Energy Storage & Renewable Generation

Increasing the Value of Energy Storage

Why?

The Operations Oriented Approach focuses on the reliability of the load serving entity and the end user.

Developments in the electric power industry in the last 5-10 years have eroded and will continue to erode that reliability.

On the energy Supplier Side:

  • Power is being purchased off system and trans- mitted over long transmission lines
  • Base load power plants are closing and being replaced with less renewable generation.
  • Large loads are being sited with long term guar- anteed purchase power contracts with no new generation being added to back those contracts.

All of this leads to the erosion of reliability on the load serving entity and end user side. The suppliers and the end users are not at odds with each other over reliability. They just have separate distinct and independent roles to play.

The electrification boom is upon us and many in the public are alarmed by it.

The technology is here to meet it. Now is the time for each segment of the industry to more publicly show leadership– to keep the industry on course and show all constituents that their confidence is well placed.

This can be best demonstrated by the deploy- ment of distributed resources where they can do the most for the ultimate customer and where community awareness of the benefits is en- hanced.
